CN.com recently launched their redesign. I was reading up on it during their beta and I wanted to link to some of those articles, but I could not find them on the new site. I think it’s a very good effort, and they’ve built lots of new features in that will likely start some new ‘best practices’ for journalistic websites.
I can’t help but notice however, how ad heavy the site is. On article pages, which I’m guessing are some of their more popular pages, they have so many ads that it’s hard to focus on the content. While I like money as much as the next guy and I understand that they need to get paid, there is always a careful balance that needs to be struck with regard to advertising and content. I’d be curious to see how the redesign affects their average time on site and repeat user rates.
